Mercado Modelo - Review
This is the city market and this is where you find all kinds of art crafts and souvenirs. There are a lot of activities that also take place around this area, like you will see some people performing capoeira. Most of the items that are sold here are obviously culture related.

Mercado Modelo, Salvador Reviews
The Mercado has closed the main reason to visit. The slave holding dungeon is no longer available for public acess. It's just too much of the same. They also used to have a large art gallery with visiting local artists. The capoeira demos are gone. Too many alcoholics forcibly trying to sell cap trinkets. Trash everywhere outside. Women's rest room was spotlessly clean.
It's okay. But all the stores pretty much sell the same junk. Good for a look or getting a few trinkets to take home.
What to say about! There are some shops selling local souvenir like "Berimbal" and lace clothes. The price is on average for touristic point. Nice to say that you had visited.
Mostly meant for tourists, but still a worthwhile visit. The ideal place to pick up any souvenir, be it t-shirts, traditional clothing, pepper sauce, musical instruments or fridge magnets.
