The origins of this church lie in the 12th century, when a church dedicated to St. Blasius stood here. When the Prince Archbishop Friedrich III decided to build a hospital here in the 14th century, a church was built along with it. Unlike the other churches of the time here, this one was not particularly attractive, and it maintains an austere Gothic look to this day. The only highlights of note are the rococo screen, the octagonal columns, the wood-carved gilded tabernacle, and the simply styled classically high altar. And yet, in a way, the contrast this church provides to the opulence of the other churches in the city can be unexpectedly refreshing.
