  • Quite simply, the Samaria Gorge walks is one of THE most memorable walks my family and I have ever done! It is truly magnificent, and we are so glad we made the effort to do it. The views, vistas and wildlife as you journey down the trail are truly beautiful, and although it's hard work in places, the reward more than makes up for it. We have so many memories from our time in the gorge, each of which we cherish. Don't be tempted to do this walk in lightweight footwear, you'll regret it! We saw some young back-packer types in flip-flops and sandals, which might have been fine for the bits of the trail that are paths, but completely unsuitable for the many parts that are not. One final word of warning. The day after you do the walk, avoid ALL places you might find stairs. You'll understand what I mean once you've experienced it for yourself. Good luck and ENJOY this 16km marvel!

  • What an amazing experience?! I walked this 14k trail and it took me about 6 hours!! Make sure you wear very comfortable walking boots and pack a towel, bikini and flip flops so you can have a dip in the sea when you finish your trail.

  • Nice long walking

  • Incredible hike that you should plan to do if you are feeling strong and able to walk 13+ km through rugged terrain with lots of downhill to begin with. Be warned - this is an actual hike so you should not do this is anything but good running shoes or hiking boots. Many free bathrooms along the way with cheap tickets that can be bought near the entrance. Don't feel ashamed if you take the bus at the end of the 13 km to the exit, it costs 1-2 euros and takes a couple of minutes to do the last stretch of dusty roads. Only take 1 water bottle as there are many refill stations along the way. If you want to do this without a tour, which I recommend as you don''t have to be up at 5 AM, go to the bus station in Chania and show up at around 7:30 and tell them you are hiking the Samaria Gorge and they will give you a round trip bus ticket. Wait for your air conditioned bus and get on with all of the other hikers and go straight there. Once you are done the hike, find the ferry ticket booth and buy yourself a ticket to where the bus round trip ticket is (they will know exactly what you mean) and get on the huge ferry and relax for an hour. And also, have a great hike!

  • One of the most dramatic hikes i have been on. Worth the effort to go there. Arrive early and start the hike early and end early in Agia Romeli. Have a good beer and relax after that
