About Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, San Antonio

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. is an American chain of combined restaurant and gift stores with a Southern country theme. The company was founded by Dan Evins in 1969; its first store was in Lebanon, Tennessee, which remains the company headquarters. The chain's stores were at first positioned near Interstate highway exits in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States, but it has expanded across the country during the 1990s and 2000s. As of September 18, 2012, the chain operates 639 stores in 43 states. Cracker Barrel's menu is based on traditional Southern cuisine, with appearance and decor designed to resemble an old-fashioned general store. Each restaurant features a front porch lined with wooden rocking chairs, a stone fireplace, and decorative artifacts from the local area. Cracker Barrel is known for its partnerships with country music performers. It has received attention for its charitable activities, such as its assistance of victims of Hurricane Katrina and injured war veterans. Employees there wear a choice of either white, yellow, blue or pink shirts. During the 1990s, the company was the subject of controversy for its official stance against gay and lesbian employees and for discriminatory practices against African-American customers and female employees. In 2004, a U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) investigation found that Cracker Barrel discriminated against minority customers; patrons complained of racially segregated seating and service quality. In an agreement with the USDOJ, Cracker Barrel implemented non-discrimination policies and pledged to focus on improving minority representation and civic involvement, particularly in the black community. Company shareholders added sexual orientation to the company's non-discrimination policy in 2002.

  • Food was delicious as always, but the best part was they get my eggs almost perfect!! Besides cooking eggs at home I hardly can get a cook that can get the white done with the yolk still runny. I've ordered eggs here numerous times now with a high success rate for good eggs. This place is hardly ever super busy, unless a graduation is going on, and we've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for table even then.

  • The last few years I feel they have lost the love in their cooking. Things are not having much flavor and the food is served a bit cold. The biscuits would be served warm now they are cold and hard. Please try to figure out if the cooks are not happy doing their job.

  • Excellent serverice, from Lin. Food came out perfect and fast. And they were extremely busy.

  • Always generous portions. Servers seem better at checking on the table and bringing refills than other restaurants in the area. Would be nice if I could substitute something for grits. They also do not offer a military discount.

  • We had to ask for a refill on coffee because the server never bothered to check on us until our meal was almost finished. The girl that brought our food out basically slammed the plates down to the point that she spilled the au jus all over the table. Her name was Allison. We had to ask for our bread and gravy that we'd ordered and she appeared annoyed that we asked for it. Jacqulyn, our original server was fine but Allison was terrible. Such a shame because we've never had issues before.
