About Natural Bridge Caverns, San Antonio

This cavern has a bit of a man-nature love story to it. When student Orion Knox Jr. found this cavern, he approached the landowner, Mrs. Clara Wuest with the idea of developing it. The various bodies they contacted for the purpose agreed with the intent, but admitted they did not have the funds for such an endeavor. Undaunted, Orion and Clara took it upon themselves to develop this site, along with help from Clara’s new hubby, patrolman Harvey Heidemann and a man named Jack Burch. Since that time, this place has been managed by that very family. Excavations have revealed some prehistoric animal and human bones and artefacts – including skull parts from an extinct black bear.

Currently the tours in the caves go about 180 feet underground into an atmosphere that maintains precise cool temperatures and humidity all year around. You can choose from various tours – its going to be fantastic any which way. Playing around with the zip glides or being plunged into moments of absolute darkness – the caves will take you completely out of your comfort zone, but you’ll be safe.

Natural Bridge Caverns, San Antonio Reviews

  • This place is full with family activities. The cave and feed wildlife is such a cool and fun experiences. There’s so much to do here. I would recommended to get there first thing when they’re open. Go here sometime in February so it won’t be too hot and humid. It will be a nice breeze during that month. Highly recommended for a weekend trip.

  • I had soooo much fun!!! The tour guide Marie was great! Informative, smart and funny! I had such a great time! "Don't touch the wall or think of drinking or eating anything from the cave.. It'll taste like a 3rd degree felony." 😂😂 there's a law protecting the caverns.

  • Great time here. The tour is just the right distance. The caverns are really humid so don’t wear a jacket. I wish I would have taken a water bottle with me. There is some steep drops and climbs but the handrails help. I saw plenty of children and elderly on the tour. About $50 for two people for the regular tour. I would definitely visit again.

  • We really enjoyed the caverns. First time back in over 15 years. There were many upgrades but the caverns are still awesome. A must see for children and adults. My kids loved panning for treasure. Also the maze race is so much fun! We will be back to do the other cavern tour and the zip lining. Allow a full day. There is lots to do any you will need to take breaks.

  • This is a very interesting place for the family to spend their weekend. Amazing cavern created by Mother Nature. There is a lot of walking. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, bring bottle water. The floor could be slippery due to water dropping from inside the cave.
