This cavern has a bit of a man-nature love story to it. When student Orion Knox Jr. found this cavern, he approached the landowner, Mrs. Clara Wuest with the idea of developing it. The various bodies they contacted for the purpose agreed with the intent, but admitted they did not have the funds for such an endeavor. Undaunted, Orion and Clara took it upon themselves to develop this site, along with help from Clara’s new hubby, patrolman Harvey Heidemann and a man named Jack Burch. Since that time, this place has been managed by that very family. Excavations have revealed some prehistoric animal and human bones and artefacts – including skull parts from an extinct black bear.
Currently the tours in the caves go about 180 feet underground into an atmosphere that maintains precise cool temperatures and humidity all year around. You can choose from various tours – its going to be fantastic any which way. Playing around with the zip glides or being plunged into moments of absolute darkness – the caves will take you completely out of your comfort zone, but you’ll be safe.

The parking was huge! I thought it was only the caverns but they have so much more. I took the discovery tour and it was awesome. I had such a great time and took lots of pictures. If you go to San Antonio you need to visit this place and also the Wildlife Ranch that's next to it.
Natural Bridge Caverns in The Best. We are from NOLA and are frequent visitors to Austin and New Braunfels. The Caverns are spectacular!!! My kids loved the zip line and & panning for arrowheads. Pictures do not do the caverns justice—-you need to see it for yourself. Easy drive from Austin or San Antonio This is an absolute must when you visit Central Texas. Location A Service A Parking A Camera Worthy A Value A Family Trip A We will absolutely return!!!
Impeccably well kept area and clean grounds. The shops are immaculate, restrooms are very clean the staff is very nice. The tours and additional activities are well priced. A great place for young and old children. Zip-lining, mazes, gold mining and many other fun activities; there is so much more here then when I last went as a child. A family could easily spend the entire day here. Dress appropriately, the cave was not 70 degrees as posted, or at least it wasn't when we went in October. :-) this is certainly not a fault of the groundskeepers. But given the humidity, it was more like a sauna, so be prepared.
This was my first time in a deep Cavern. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We couldn't do all of it as two of the rooms were flooded from too much water seeping in. It was really a wonderful place. The guide was very informative didn't rush you, yet you still got to do the tour in a good time. The hardest part was the grade walking up. I would recommend and we did to them that they somehow change the railings that they have there. They're just too slippery. You really don't feel comfortable using them. Other than that I thought it was a wonderful wonderful place. Highly recommended it. Also if you get one of those States passport books you can get it stamped in your book because it's one of the states natural wonders.
Visited late October. Temperature outside was around high 50's. Temp inside caverns were nice yet we still sweat quite a bit. Our guide was very patient - allowing us to stop numerous times to take pictures. We were the last group but nobody hurried us thru our tour. Fantastic sights. A bit pricey but would visit again with a better camera next time!
