San Antonio Museum Of Art - Review

SAMA is an important San Antonio Landmark. It was originally the building of the historic Lone Star Brewery. It’s a brilliant place to either start or end the River Walk. Most of it’s exhibits specialise in  pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial and Latin American folk art, eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth-century, American and European paintings, photography, sculpture and decorative arts, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman Art and Chinese ceramics.

There are also displays of contemporary art, oceanic art, Islamic art and an entire section devoted to temporary exhibitions. The staff is certainly friendly and helpful and knowledgable enough about the exhibits to make sure that you come away enriched. The restaurant is lovely too with good food and it overlooks the San Antonio River Walk.

  • It was decent and we were admiring the art, but some museum attendant there warned us about not standing too close to some exhibits because a loud alarm would go off. Then the same attendant that was very very awkward kept following us looking at us from like 4-5 feet away and made me and my girlfriend feel very uncomfortable when trying to enjoy the art. I don't know if anyone else has felt the same but it was this curly haired like 5'5" woman she was extremely weird.

  • Amazing display of artwork from all over the world! When I was there the main exhibition was of a collection of paintings that captured the essence of those times. Every piece was highly detailed and illustrated the clothes, the social classes, the customs/traditions, and the religious influences. Also on display was a large collection of Egyptian/Mesopotamian sculptures, statues, paintings, ceramics, shields, and helmets. Definitely worth a visit and they offer military discounts.

  • Went in expecting a generic experience but then I got the opportunity to see all the exibets and explored for 2 more hours. There are some beautiful sets and Peace's with Peace's of art that can't be explained but only experienced. I highly recommend this museum.

  • It has antiquities to look at and it offers Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm is free. Many interesting things to see if you like history and art. From the Bronze Age to modern art. The amateur and the professional will appreciate the artwork throughout the ages. It was a pleasure looking at all the antiquities that I have only seen in history books or documentaries.

  • This is such a great place to go. I went on a Tuesday night; admission was free and there was live music in the main area. Each floor of the museum offers something different. Allow yourself plenty of time to view everything, there is so much to see and learn about. You won't be disappointed!
