San Antonio Zoo And Aquarium, San Antonio Reviews
I've been to about a dozen different zoo's across a few different states and San Antonio zoo is by far one of the best I've been to yet! The size and quality of the structures and living situations they have for their animals is beyond impressive. Talking with the staff you can tell that even the lowest members of the staff enjoy their job and are appreciated just as much as the person who holds the highest title. My girlfriend and I went to the Beastly Breakfast with the Giraffes. You're treated to an all you can eat breakfast buffet before proceeding over to the giraffe enclosure to get some up close and personal photos of you and your guest hand feeding the giant giraffes. Definitely a memory my girlfriend and I will have forever and something we talk about frequently.
The San Antonio Zoo is a nice, smaller facility. There's the typical residents, plus (a BIG plus) their amazing bird collection. In addition to the birds on display, there's an excellent breeding program for rare species. The keepers are excellent - they know their stuff! Great at answering questions, and you can see their hearts are in their work- they truly love what they do! I would DEFINITELY go back here!!
My girlfriend and I bought the yearly membership package as we both love going to places like this. We took her son and his girlfriend with us. I had not been to a Zoo before (gasp). I lived being able to see animals that I would not have had a chance to see in my lifetime. The butterfly enclosure was awesome. While we were there they had robotic dinosaurs throughout the Zoo. It was a lot of fun.
Edit: We have been back to the zoo 3 times since my original post. We have been very pleased with our visits since then. The staff has been more helpful and upfront. We have been able to ride the carousel and feed the giraffes on each visit. We purchased the membership and have been very pleased so far! I also recommend checking out the toddler area near the end of the zoo. There is an indoor play area, an outdoor splashpad and sand area, and several shaded areas to relax. Original post: We were disappointed with the experience today. There were several areas that are under repair including the carousel and giraffe enclosure. The staff was friendly but not very knowledge (or perhaps not forthcoming) about how long it would take for the repairs. We have had more enjoyable experiences before and plan to return. You can bring your own food and navigating with strollers is very easy. The majority of the zoo is well shaded and there are plenty of places for a picnic.
The zoo is really awesome and kid and adult friendly!! They always have something fresh and exciting! When you become a member you get a ton of benefits even a one day free entrance to splash town!! The animals are adorable and it’s a pretty big size to walk around. They got a pretty big size children’s area for the little ones to play and talk with other kids. They are always hiring people so that’s really good if you love the zoo!
