Bernardo Winery - Review
Not content to serve ridiculously good handcrafted wines, this Winery decided to do organize ridiculously romantic weddings as well. The Rizzo family Has been in the line making business for three generations now, starting in 1899. The winery is located a little way out of San Diego, and B indoor and outdoor decoration is such that the entire place has a very rustic charm. The Tasting Room itself is a dimly lit romantic area. But the winery isn't all you get.
Check out the Cafe Merlot in the centre of the courtyard. Outside the winery is a small village filled with the cutest shops such as:
- Bernardo Winery's Sweet Shoppe: Confections
- Botanicals by the Sea: natural ingredient soaps
- Clay Artists at the Vineyard
- Cotton Cottage Boutique - adorable women's wear
- Cozy Posies Flowers & Gifts - flowers
- Gently Hugged - clothes and blankets for babies in need
- Icarus Studio & Gallery - art by locals
- Jewel & Vine Fine Jewelry - gifts and repair
- Rancho Bernardo Historical Society - local history
- The Vine Theater - black box style theatre at the winery
Public events are held in the area throughout the year, including Friday Artwalks, October Arts and Crafts Fair, and the Friday Farmer's Market.
All things considered, you could spend an entire day in the area without wanting to leave.

Bernardo Winery, San Diego Reviews
I had the chance to visit Bernardo winery on a beautiful Sunday. To be honest it was a bit weird to be looking for a winery in the middle of a urban community. Once there, there was ample parking and signs that guide you throughout the winery. First, you can see antiques (eclectic antiques) that we used for their production of wine in the past, old boots and antique looking art pieces. Once in the middle, there’s the restaurant and wine shop. There’s limited tables all over, often there’s 2 or 3 Set of people who sit on the same tables because there isn’t enough tables/ chairs. The menu is limited but they have a nice variety of wines. There was a live performance and the ambiance was great! As you sipped your wine and listened to the performance you could go visit around. There are shops but most of them were closed. There’s a shop that will pair your wine with a little piece of chocolate..just bring in your glass. The winery itself was dried and maybe 8-10 plants were present. On your way out you can buy a bottle or two of your favourite wine of the winery. I had a lovely time there but I would not go back for a second time.
I arrange to come to San Diego on Thursday so I can get to the Farmers' market on Friday! A little lunch and a glass of wine (sparkling method of champagne) makes this a must each visit. The wine tasting is augmented by the chocolate shop in the old Town village. Love this oasis!
Super cute wine village with a tasting room, restaurant, and shops (sweets, beauty products, coffee, and more). Beautifully designed and decorated with strong lights, succulents, and accessories. Was looking for vineyards close to downtown San Diego and this area was perfect can easily Lyft there approx 30 min without traffic. Tasting room has a large covered patio with lots of seating and restaurant has a matching one, there’s also benches and more seating throughout. A bit hidden as you drive through the canyon and a residential area with lucky owners to be steps away from this space.
This place is wonderful and there are so many things to do here. My wife and I did the wine tasting and although the wine was great the cheese plate was the best thing there. The berries were very fresh and full of flavor. It was the perfect pairing with the wine. There are tons of shops and a really good chocolate store on the grounds. They also have an amazing place for weddings, it is an outdoor barn area. I highly recommend coming out to the grounds and spending an afternoon.
We had a great time here. Restaurant has pretty good menu. 2 for 1 wine tasting with chocolate pairings. Excellent music. Fun shops and the ambience is amazing. A gem in San Diego
