Botanical Building - Review

Built for the 1915–16 Panama-California Exposition, this Botanical garden is notable for a handful of striking features. These include:

  • Stand in front of the Lily Pond with the building in background. Take a picture. This is the most popular snapshot in the park.
  • Go inside the building and look up. What you are seeing is the largest lath structure in the world.
  • Check out the floral treasures. There are over 1200 plants here, shrubs and trees and seasonal flowers from all around the world. The exhibits are all Touch and Smell, and beautifully explained.

  • Wow! This is a must see in Balboa Park. Well, its one of several really. We easily spent a couple of hours here just strolling around and enjoying so many fascinating plants from all over the world. The atmosphere was really chill and we're looking forward to our next visit. I think it would take about a week to see and do all that the park has to offer.

  • We had a very nice walk around conservatory. Different from many others, this botanical garden is covered with wood plaques that allow the wind to breeze inside. Overall is a place that is worth a visit if you are around. Very lively on Sunday mornings.

  • Go breath in the fresh air! My son and I always make our way into the beautiful Botanical building in Balboa Park. The most amazing plants and color. True fresh air in that charming building. Always something blooming. A MUST SEE in Balboa Park, San Diego, Ca.

  • You can't visit the botanical building just once. Lots of care and planning go onto the different botanical displays. You'll see different blooms with the changing seasons. The poinsettia display in December is worth the trip. Another free exhibit in Balboa Park. Be sure to smell the scented geraniums.

  • This is one of the many free botanical gardens in the park. The wooden structure is impressive, there are relaxing water gardens in front, and a huge variety of exotic plants from around the world inside. Some interactive exhibits as well (plants that you are encouraged to touch and smell). Highly suggested during a visit to Balboa Park.
