This three miles long beach is a 30 minutes drive north of San Diego along the Pacific Coast. Most of the interest is directed not at the beach, but at the South Carlsbad State Beach Campground. The campground park has picnic spots, ramps and over two hundred locations to camp for the night. The campground are on a bluff overlooking the sea. The bluff is slowly eroding away, so don't get too close to the edge. Narrow stairs lead down from the camp to the beach.

South Carlsbad State Beach, San Diego Reviews - Write a Review
Great location.. lots of traffic and heavy staff presence. Lovely view and sites are affordable street side. Beach side sites are double the cost. Little to no shade but tall shrubbery do provide privacy. Minimal to no amenities are found on the sites. Sites are numerous and often booked early.
Beautiful camping on the Pacific Bluffs. Friendly staff and hosts. Would've given 5 stars, but their reservation system is funky at best, mainly if you're trying to book for the next day cancellations. Only way to do that is get in line at 6 in the morning, then wait there till 8:30 for them to let you know...
Super nice state beach with showers and bathrooms. Some sites have hook ups, most are dirty unless they are a handicapped space which is asphalt. Steps down to the beach. Grocery store close by. Love this spot.
Noisy, but very family friendly, kids everywhere. Nice beach below. Not good if you want seclusion, but great if you just want to go hang out at the beach for a few days. The sites are okay for tents, but it really is more of an RV campground.
The camp store is the best in the parks system. The guy is real cool and his prices are very decent. You can always walk over the Ralph's across the street if he doesn't have something that you need. I don't like that they cut down most of the bushes between the sites. It was nice not having to see everyone around you at night. Otherwise AWESOME!
