This is not a family beach. Smooth sandstone slopes down into wildly churning waters broken by reefs and rocks. Swimmers and surfers in the water should be careful not to injure themselves. In winter the surf can be up to eight feet high. Still, it is a romantic spot. It is common to find newly married couples collecting shots for their wedding album at sunset. There is a small shack for shade that you'll never guess is a historical landmark. Bring your own food. There is a rather secluded portion of the beach known as Mushroom beach, which has tidal pools.

  • Not allowed: fishing, smoking, alcohol, camping, glass containers, or picking up the beach's natural resources.
  • Dogs not allowed between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm in winters and 9am-6pm in summers.
  • Some parking space available.
  • Lifeguards from 9:00 am-dusk.

  • Bus 30 stop La Jolla Bl & Nautilus St.
  • By Car.

  • It’s a very beautiful beach, but there are a LOT of sand crabs (which means it’s very healthy but whatever). If you don’t like the concept of having hundreds of small crabs under your feet... it’s not the best. But, what it lacks in sand crabs, it makes up for in beauty, tide pools, and size. Very fun.

  • I agree with all the positive reviews. It's so quaint and clean. The lifeguards do an incredible job of keeping people safe. Lets always take care of this beautiful oasis.

  • Top notch beach with stunning views, tide pools and strong waves. Be careful with younger children as the sea floor drops quickly at the water's edge causing strong currents and waves that will knock down even an adult. My kids loved the strong waves and getting tossed around though! Just had to keep a closer eye on them. There are no restrooms here which also keeps the population down during the nicer summer days. Either way if you're looking for a gorgeous sunset, fun waves, clear water, surfing or a less populated beach, check out Windansea.

  • Beautiful area. Can be hard to park on weekends. When the waves get over 3 ft not for beginners.
