The reason to visit this park is spelled out in its name - great views. Sitting on a hill 175 metres high, it’s the oldest park in San Francisco. The layout it intelligent – it uses the park’s natural gradients to take advantage of the views. The best view isn’t from the top though, but from lower down, in an area called the ‘Window’ – it has sweeping views of the Golden Gate Park, the Pacific Ocean, and if the day is clear enough, even the white cliffs ofDrake's Bay.

It’s a great place to take out your family – picnic areas, barbeque pits, drinking fountains, playgrounds, and restrooms. The bird, animal and plantlifeis worth checking out.

  • Walking this park and all of its steep paths is a workout for your legs, if you need the workout then it's a good thing. But if you are there for a casual stroll it gets annoying; every turn of the path reveals either more steps to climb or a steep uphill climb. But when you reach the top there is a small grass area with beautiful views of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge (or the fog depending on the weather).

  • Gorgeous very steeply graded park which once had fantastical gnarled trees and roots out of some other worldly movie. Some years ago these were messed with because of the "illicit" (read: lewd) activities going on in the park. But now former state almost completely renewed. Treat yourself to a "back to the past" psychedelic mind type experience...just by going! (Such substances not required for this.)

  • Lovely park. I didn't see any public restrooms but I'm sure they're there somewhere. Many different entrances all around.

  • This is a beautiful park with lots of stairs and inclined paths but with exceptional views, as its name suggests. It also has plentiful blackberry bushes - I have no idea whether any pesticides etc are used, so I am not recommending eating any ripe blackberries that happen to fall into your hand, especially without washing them. However, at the start of July, the berries were not quite ripe but still tasted 1,000% better than store bought ones. Or so I heard. :-)

  • One of my favorite walks. My family has been in the Haight for generations. Our mansion is still there on Page st with the servants quarters and what was our horse stable. Just one block from Buena Vista. My father has climbed all the trees ive climbed and at 40yrs old today. I still climb what trees our left in SF parks. Enjoy my Home. Leave all judgement you may have in life. Keep yourself open to all possibilities. And god damn it! SMILE!!!
