Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTAG) (formerly NYSE: DTG) is a holding company for Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Rent-A-Car. Formed in 1990 by Chrysler, the company began operating independently in 1997. In November 2012, it was acquired by Hertz Global Holdings in a $2.3 billion deal. The company previously owned Snappy Rent-a-Car (sold in 1994), Eurodollar, and General Rent-a-Car (which ceased operations in 1993). It is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Prior to 2009, the company primarily rented Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles within the United States. Some locations were an exception and featured other brands such as Mazda, Nissan, or Toyota. In October 2009, the company announced its decision to move away from its traditional reliance on Chrysler Group vehicles. The objective of this decision was to better diversity their fleet vehicles. DTAG was a Fortune 1000 company and operated in over 1,475 locations worldwide with over 835 sites in the United States. In 2006, the company outsourced its IT operations to EDS. As of October 2009, the company had approximately 7,000 employees, 700 of whom were located in Tulsa.

  • Stopped by yesterday to change my pick up time and was told it was fine to show up at any time. Have just arrived now to find they are closed for lunch for an hour from 10.45 to 11.45 - prime check out time! Wasn't mentioned when I came yesterday. Unacceptable for them to be closed for so long during check out time.

  • Fast service. Centrally located.

  • From start to end, I had a horrible experience with Dollar. I arrived 10 minutes after my scheduled pick up time to be told that there was no car ready for me and I would have to wait another 2 to 3 hours. I obviously wasn't impressed with this and was forced to kill time when I had plans that required a vehicle. It finally arrived 2 1/2 hours later and half my day was already gone and wasted. Then when I returned the car I filled it up 3 blocks down and when the guy who took the car in assessed it he said I would have to pay for the fuel that was missing and just charged it to my card. I told him not to charge it as we just filled up but he said it was too late and had already put it thorough. I was furious, he didn't even tell me anything, just charged me $17 for fuel I shouldn't have to pay for. So I had to waste more time driving back to the gas station to fill it again with a dribble of fuel and return it to get my $17 refunded. This organisation is highly unprofessional and I will never use them again.

  • Tried to push us as much as possible into buying an insurance. Terrible experience, never rent at this store ever again.

  • Paid for convertible Mustang (or similar) at booking and ended up with a hard top sedan. Perfect. Somewhat ruined the coastal trip down to LA, seeing everyone else in their soft top Mustang.
