A truly unique dining experience in San Francisco, Forbes Island is a must visit! The floating “restaurant-island” is essentially a ship combined with a lighthouse. Apart from the scrumptious food, the highlight is the underwater dining rooms and bar. Sip on cocktails by the waterside on the patio and take your time exploring the place. Head up to the lighthouse and enjoy the view.

  • A peculiar experience. This exotic restaurant is located next to in Pier 39 and literally is an artificial island. To get there you need a boat that waits for you in the left side of Pier 39 (don't use the main entrance and walk in parallel outside of the major shops of Pier 39). Originally the owner built this place as his house. It became so famous that he started built houses like this. The restaurant was his very first model. If you don't have motion sickness you'll be fine, but I recommend take some pills if you have. When you are at the main table and everything is moving around softly it may cause you nausea. The food and experience is unique. Three courses with fresh fish or fillets. Desserts are incredible. A great experience, but take consideration if you can manage unstable grounds... (aka boats).

  • Fun, theme park like restaurant with nice atmosphere, excellent service, and very good food. A bit pricey, but worth a visit for the novelty value. Just wished that there would have been more underwater portholes and with actual views.

  • Was amazing from 2011-2013. Sad to see that this gem of San Francisco is gone. Hopefully it will make a return.

  • I LOVE this, dramatic little island just inside the breakwater. The staff is great, bartenders are wonderful. Always love the food & the AMBIENCE is second to none. It's like a one night adventurous journey! You might even have the treatment of Forbes himself ferry you over to his romantic island. Secret Treasure!

  • I went for a special occasion dinner a few months back, and wow, the ambiance is great! Getting there is the interesting part, you have to take a boat! Food quality is exceptional the lighting went with the occasion's mood. Oh, and yes, the restaurant moves according to the direction of the current. So, if you get seasick, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! After the diner, you have a chance to go up in the lighthouse and see the city lights, its wonderful! Then, if you are too full to go on the boat ride back, you can sit outside!
