Columbarium: A room or building with niches for funeral urns to be stored.
Now that you have context, you learn that this is one of San Francisco’s most fringe attractions. The hauntingly beautiful neo-classical building has suffered a lot since it was built in 1897 – neglect, looting and vandalism. It’s only in the last three decades that it has been restored, by the singular efforts of Emmitt Watson.
Its beauty is now apparent. A stained glass dome ceiling caps a light-filled atrium. The balconies are elegant. The rooms on the ground floor are themed after mythological winds, while those on the first floor at themed after constellations. The people interred here are famous, such as Harvey Milk and Chet Helms.

Neptune Society Columbarium Reviews & Ratings
Serena was amazing and very helpful during a very difficult time. She has a huge heart and i know my sister was in good hands.
My overall experience at the San Francisco Columbarium has been incredibly positive. The site is beautiful, serene, and peaceful. In particular, Serena Brockman has been amazing - compassionate, understanding, extremely clear in communications, patient, allowing me to take my time, answering innumerable questions with patience and poise. I'm very grateful for her support and presence throughout our interactions in this very challenging time.
Crystal was kind, compassionate and provided a clear and thorough explanation of the available services.
My family is grateful for the help and exceptional caring from the staff, Brian, Kristie, Crystal & Emmitt. In one of the most difficult, unexpected time of our lives, they patiently answered questions, and held us when needed. We found the best spot for mom. Deepest thanks...
An architectural gem and fascinating necropolis. The exterior elevation is deceptive and once inside, you'll find a surprising number of levels to explore. This building is the only remnant of the Odd Fellows Cemetery which once covered 27 acres here along Geary Boulevard.
