The Six Sisters or Painted Ladies in the historical Alamo Square Park are exquisitely painted and designed Victorian houses, setup along a stunning backdrop. Along the slight slope of the road, thousands of houses stand looking spectacular, swathed in loud, bright, and vibrant colours like red, yellow, blue, chocolate, green, and many more. Developed by Matthew Kavanaugh these houses attract one’s attention immediately and hence, Alamo Square is one of the most photographed sites, as people love to capture the symmetry of the “Postcard Row” –another nickname of Six Sisters or Painted Ladies. With the backdrop of the contemporary styled San Francisco skyscrapers, these Edwardian-Victorian houses bear their own tradition and are unique in their stature to be featured in various movies, TV Shows, and magazines.

  • We were in the area when visiting San Francisco so we decided to stop by here. The houses reminded me a bit of rainbow row in Charleston. They're definitely pretty and well designed. You can get a good view from the hill in Alamo park. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it's worth a stop if you're near by.

  • Beautiful. The houses are amazing, historical representation right there, you see them a lot in movies and going to witness that by your own is one of the best feelings. In front, there's a beautiful park with tall trees where everyone goes picnic and you could too! Keep in mind there might me strong cold wind so keep yourself warm! :)

  • I loved looking at houses. Especially ones with character. Luckily the city of San Francisco is filled with them and these Victorian's are among the most popular. Of course they great in popularity because of Full House the ones that most go to see that are commonly called the 7 sisters. However a painted lady is really any house with 3 or more paint colors on the exterior. There are several nearby the famous ones everyone sees. In fact I found the 4 the next block over from the 7 sisters more interesting than the ones everyone goes to see. Still I enjoyed seeing the houses for what they are and not because of a show.

  • A beautiful and iconic place to be at. There's a park right opposite it, which is the Alamo Park making the visit even better. Also, public toilet is available. Parking might be a hit or miss depending on the time of the day and how popular it is during that time. We were lucky to secure a spot, but right after we did, all spots were full.

  • Beautiful row of iconic San Francisco Victorian Row Houses. Made famous from the 90’s show Full House. Since I was a childhood Full House fanatic, I had to stop and get a few pics. Alamo Square offers beautiful spots with the San Francisco skyline as a backdrop. Fun place for a quick photo op.
