Home of the San Francisco Opera, the beautiful building is one of the last Beaux Arts structures built in the USA. It’s the work of the same man who built Coit Tower and the City Hall - Arthur Brown Jr. Its interior was given an extensive makeover after the 1989 Earthquake.

Its history has a chapter which surprises many who first hear of it – this is where the United Nations first held a conference, and this is where the United Nations Charter was first signed (here, and the Herbst Theatre next doors).

The Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall next door is the is the concert hall component of the Opera House.
