Duomo means ‘cathedral’ but this is no longer considered as a cathedral as there is no bishop in here. This is however still the main church of the town that was started in the 11th century and completed in the 15th century. It is simple from outside, but as you enter it you will find the interiors are opulently decorated with frescoes. It is rated as the most densely decorated church of Tuscany.

• The frescoes all depict scenes from the Old Testament, New Testament, Last Judgement and other figures of saints.
• One of the best frescoes here is the one that was made by Ghirlandaio in 1475.

These two frescoes show the life of Santa Fina, a local girl who was unofficially one of the patron saints of the town. It is said that this little girl was extremely pious but was suffering from guilt pangs as she had snatched an orange from a little boy. For this she laid down sick for a few years and then St. Gregory appeared and foretold her death.It is known that at this very moment, the plank on which she was lying down started producing colorful flowers and after her death when she was being carried to the church for the funeral, the angels came down to ring the bells and pansies were filled in here. Also, a blind boy and a Fina’snurse who were paralyzed for 5 years were miraculously cured just by touching her. Since then this day is celebrated every year and till now they say pansies grow up naturally in the church garden on this day.
