Overview of Pre-columbian Gold Museum

The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is a museum located in a subterranean building in San Jose, Costa Rica. The museum has a collection of gold artefacts dating back to the Pre-Columbian era. In Columbian culture, gold was considered a symbol of statute and authority and hence most of the coins, jewellery and other items were made in gold. There are over 1600 artefacts and they include Costa Rica's first coin, the Media Escudo, and various other figurines, amulets, earrings, erotic statuettes and El Guerrero, a life-sized gold warrior figure. The museum is open every day from 09:15 am to 05:00 pm.
