This stunning and historic site is worth a visit while in San Jose. The name of the church and its patron saint also happen to be the name of the city making it a very important landmark there.

The simplicity and elegance of the place is certainly worth noting. The grand building is beautiful inside out. The lovely altar and the spectacular domed ceiling make this place a very popular tourist attraction. The white walls contrast beautifully with the colorful paintings and carvings on the walls.

The Roman Catholic Basilica built in the year 1885 has endured beautifully over time and is a wonderful spiritual place to visit in San Jose. It also hosts religious music concerts, which are a wonderful experience.

Cathedral Basilica Of St. Joseph, San Jose Reviews - Write a Review

  • This Cathedral which is now a Basilica is beautiful. Pride of San Jose. Our soup kitchen provides their Social Ministry sandwiches and bakery products to hand to the homeless. Once a year, to honor St. Joseph they open their doors to all for a free hot lunch donated by local restaurants.

  • I was ashamed of the so called "Rite of Election" performed in 2017. None of the music was Catholic. Just watered-down Protestant pop, complete with tambourines and clapping by the rhythmically disadvantaged congregation. Francis Cilia also inserted negative commentary in regards to President Trump in his homily. Worse, is that Cilia allowed people participating in the rite to dance in the center of the church holding the books with initiates names in them. It saddened me to see such disrespect in the house of God by both Vicar General and those in attendance. A moment that should have been sober and reflective for a convert on the road to Damascus was trivialized and made meaningless. I pray for those initiates who were cheated out of an opportunity to truly connect with Christ and grow in appreciation of the One True Faith.

  • At the time I was trying to get into and R. C. I. A program because I had only been baptized as a baby. I looked at five other church but had a hard time being able to get into this program but then a student driver of mine (student) via (I'm a driving instructor at Stratford Driving School) had told me ofhiw her family had attended this church and had told me that I should try to get in their programs. The next day I went to their office lucky I was able to get in and it has been a real joy to say that: I attended R. C. I. A (first communion and confirmation adult program)at this church. During this journey I not only have learned what it is that is really going in mas but have learned soo much about the different jobs of the church, different parts of mass, chothlic calendar seasons and have learned soo much beautiful history. Everyone is soo kind hearted and at the same time down to earth and I love going to church and enjoyed celebrating ash we stay with my teachers and fellow classmates. I would say if any one has not had their first communion and confirmation completed differently take a look at this churches R. C. I. A program.
