In order to tell the future generations about the local railroad history, the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum was established in 2013. The freight house was used to load and transfer goods, way back in 1984 and today, it stands as one of the oldest railroad structures in San Luis Obispo county. The museum also exhibits artifacts, modeling, art and archives.
About 30,000 locals and eight million tourists pay a visit to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum every year, hence making it a crowded tourist attraction in SLO. San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum Reviews & Ratings
Historic place, perfect for families, and the bridge over the tracks will give you a nice view of the city. We do have a good amount (or bad amount) of transients that frequent this area but they are generally harmless and leave people alone. The museum is one of the best kid-friendly options in SLO other than the children's museum of course..
If you like trains, models or full-sized, then this is a fun place to stop. From an extensive model rail setup to static historic displays, there is something for everyone.
A great collection of railroad-related displays. I hope you can finish your model trains soon XD
Staff/Volunteers very knowledgeable, kid friendly
Nice museum. Good place for Amtrak trainwatching.
