Located on the eastern side of Lima, the Markahuasi plateau is nestled in the Andez Mountains along the Rimac River and boasts of the typical granite rock formations looking like human faces, religious symbols, and animal figures like that of seals and turtles. Sprawling over four square metres, the Markahuasi also has a few pre-Columbian tombs of ancient inhabitants. On the northern side of Markahuasi, you will find over fifty ruined structures which can be accessed through the doorways that range from narrow to around 3 feet tall. Hikers need to acclimatize with the height and weather after reaching Lima and then hike to the plateau, which will take around two hours. Carry water if you wish to camp there.
