Although built during Ancient India, Sanchi Stupa was rediscovered in the British regime by General Taylor during some excavations. In the year 1919, a small museum was established on the hilltopby Sir John Marshall, former Director General of ASI to preserve the relics found during excavation. A visit to this museum will introduce you to noteworthy antiques such as lion capital of Ashokan pillar. Managed by “Archaeological Survey of India”, this museum is a great way to understand this architecture and Madhya Pradesh tourism as a whole. Exhibits that get displayed inside this museum donot belong only to Sanchi but also from nearby places like Vidisha, Gyraspur, Murelkhurd etc. There are four galleries and a main hall that take you on a journey through the ancient India and its architecture.

  • It's a nice & well maintained Museum under Archeological Survey Of India. It has well curated artifacts & relics related to Boudh & Jain religion dated back to thousands of years, man made tools/utensils of stone age etc. It's really a centre of attraction for historians, students & those who are interested in human civilization & history. One must visit it while in Sanchi. Pls note that it remains close on Friday.

  • Good nice to see. Very clean & quite place . Place to visit once in life.

  • Don't forget to visit stoppages 2 as it is equally beautiful and aahhhhaaa what a wonderful landscape...spend time on the edges sitting with legs in the water at a very small but most beautifully landscaped water hole... don't miss it...take three to four hours minimum to enjoy the carvings on stoopas

  • For once one can say that the ASI has done something commendable! This museum’s layout, the displays, and maintenance are good. The range of displayed items and information provided is nice too. Adding a publication counter (like the one at the Stupas complex nearby) would certainly help. Your entry ticket to the stupas includes a visit to this museum. It is 40 rupees for Indian citizens and 600 rupees for non-Indian citizens. Children under 15 get to visit for free. Not sure if that rule applies for non-Indian nationals.

  • Great historical place . New things to learn afterall its the world Heritage
