While the main Stupa predominates Sanchi, there is another Stupa that requires equal admiration and attention. The number 2 Stupa stands at the very edge of the hill and looks an exquisite piece of art work with striking feature of the stone balustrade that encircles it. This stupa is approximately 39 feet in diameter and 22½ feet in height and looks magnificent even till today. On the balustrade that surrounds this Stupa, you will see a number of female deities and a great variety of real and mythological animals including winged lions, horse-headed and fish-headed humans, elephants, snakes and bulls making it look like Egyptian Hieroglyphs. A great historical place to visit. The monument is quite well preserved and equally well maintained. It us advisable to hire a guide during the visit. We were fortunate to have one who was well conversant with the monument and the history associated with it. Some of the carvings are really great. A must see when one visits Madhya Pradesh.

The ancient technology & science was far advanced in Ancient India compared to the rest of the world
An excellent heritage monument depicting rich culture. One must visit here if you are on your way to Bhopal or nearby. There is an entry ticket but not costly, closes at 5 pm. Should be kept open till the sunset at least. It can see a beautiful landscaping with a sunset background.
A must visit place in Madhya Pradesh. The peace and tranquility here is remarkable. It's highly recommend that one should get a guide to show around for one to have utmost appreciation of the place. If you go by yourself you could only see the architectural beauty without even understanding the real significance of the place. Really recommend.
Great place to visit of you want to taste a bit of history. Otherwise it's mostly ruins and remains which have been very well restored and maintained. You do get to see the 4 lions emblem. And understand a lot of the importance as to why each bit was made. As a side gift you get some exceptional views of the entire landscape around as it is located atop a hill.
