It’s rare to find a Courthouse touted as an important cultural and architectural landmark in the area, but this unique property is well worth the visit. The Santa Barbara County Courthouse in sunny California has been a source of much civic pride since 1850, its establishment as a small Greek-Revival Courthouse that was the seat of the local government. The current structure is in fact a reconstruction of the original, facilitated in 1926, after facing the brunt of an earthquake in the preceding year. Inaugurated on August 14, 1929, with a highly symbolic ceremony on the main stage with a throng of people looking on during the 1929 celebration of the Old Spanish Days. The Santa Barbara County Courthouse opened its doors with the setting of the bronze medallion provided by the Native Sons of Golden West, with the mixing of the ingredients of water from each of the California Missions, with sand and gravel from each of the counties in Californiaas well as cement from local sources.

As you take the elevator to the top of this magnificent structure, you can gaze out over Santa Barbaraand the fourth-floor observatory offers you panoramic views all the way out till the ocean. The tile work along the staircases is exquisite and the interior of the Bell Tower Clock is truly massive.
