Mystery Spot - Review

The Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz is one of those rare sites where one can themselves visit and check out the apparent anomalies in the laws of nature. Both gravity and basic physics seem not to function over here. Mysticism aside, the Mystery Spot is actually a tilt-stimulated optical illusion, where the peculiar tilt of the floor helps in disorienting the visitor, making their perception of height, depth and orientation go awry. Leave the physics to one side, and visit the Mystery Spot for an unforgettable time.

  • This one is really a mystery spot. Definitely worth a visit. The tour guides do an amazing job in taking you around.. Each tour lasts 48 to 50 minutes and you will have enough time to take a lot of pictures. You might feel a little dizzy once you enter the cabin, but you are gonna be fine within minutes. There is also a 15 min loop hike at mystery spot, not very great but no harm in going. Don’t forget to tip your guides in the end.

  • I had been to the boardwalk so many times growing up but it wasn't until I moved to Tennessee and saw a bumper sticker on another car that I realized I had never been to the mystery spot. As soon as I booked my next vacation to see family and friends I bought my mystery spot tickets and rented a car. Totally worth it! The area is clean, well taken care of, and everyone there is super friendly. I recommend it to everyone!

  • Make sure you reserve your spot before you drive all the way out here to this secluded tourist attraction. They were able to accommodate us without reserving ahead of time, but we had to wait over an hour for our tour time. There is no WiFi or cellular service here. The employees are all enthusiastic and fun loving people. They are super helpful as well. The tour consists of walking up a steep paved path to the little cabin on the hill. Meanwhile, your tour guide will make lots of dad jokes while they tell you the history behind the house. When you finally get to walk into the cabin, the guide does a few demonstrations and then lets the group try it out for fun and a photo op. However, there was not enough time to let everyone in the group try out all the demonstrations. Your kids will likely love this place if they don't get sucked into the vortex. Your parents will likely not make it up the hill, and if they do, they will likely feel very woozy in the cabin. So, if the choice is between doing nothing or visiting the mystery spot, just go ahead and check it out!

  • The name says it all. I’m trying to decide what exactly happened while I was there. I would recommend this stop on any vacation. I will definitely be going back. The only reason I didn’t go be it 5 stars is, You are in a tour group and I feel they rush you through some of the different spots. And there was a couple of times when the tour guides were talking over each other. But don’t let the small things stop you from going. Such an interesting place and can’t wait to go back.

  • We visited on 09/14/18: Our Tour Guide Cameron was super funny and fun. We saw other tour guides and it was easy to see we got the star of the show! We recommended that when our family and friends go the go under his tour. My daughter had a blast being his helper.
