About Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz

The Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz is one of those rare sites where one can themselves visit and check out the apparent anomalies in the laws of nature. Both gravity and basic physics seem not to function over here. Mysticism aside, the Mystery Spot is actually a tilt-stimulated optical illusion, where the peculiar tilt of the floor helps in disorienting the visitor, making their perception of height, depth and orientation go awry. Leave the physics to one side, and visit the Mystery Spot for an unforgettable time.

  • I visited this place price now and I feel that this is one of the places that I always take my friends when they come from other states in the US. All the friends home I took your really enjoyed the tour here. I would recommend to visit during the daytime as the door guys are really active during the daytime and you get a beautiful view of the trees out there and you also get to see the Mystery Spot in a better way. The tickets is just priced at $8 and you can either book it online or you can also go and take it there but usually during the weekends the tickets are full so it's better to book online. If you book tickets online then you have to reach 30 minutes before your show time and they wouldn't allow you inside if you are not before 30 minutes so take a note of that definitely this place it's all must visit if you live in the Bay Area.

  • Fun place for a family activity. Beautiful scenery, trees & flowers. Funny, entertaining tour leaders take you on a walk where you can experience things that defy logic and gravity. See tall people shorter then short people, water run uphill & round objects roll uphill too. Enjoy "hands on" experiments with your family & take all the pictures you want to show your friends back home. The walk is not difficult or long, but it is uphill at the beginning and downhill at the end. There are handrails if a person needs to hold on or stop and lean on them. Free bumper stickers. After the tour, I suggest going across the parking lot & taking the hike, even if you just go a little ways & turn around and come back. There are markers identifying things you will or might see, such as specific trees, plants, banana slugs or Bigfoot!

  • I happened to visit near closing time on a super busy day, some of the staff seemed a little on edge. Once the tour got started, though, the guide was very perky and friendly. From what I over heard with the other tour groups, the guides use many of the same jokes and generally have the same script to follow, which is to be expected. The tours are interactive with several little activities that require volunteers to demonstrate the unusual tilt of the area. Make sure to take advantage of your time in the cabin to take some wacky, gravity defying pictures. The tour was short and sweet, and you get a free bumper sticker. Not bad for eight dollar admission and a five dollar parking fee per car. The only real downside is that the food wasn't great and was a bit on the expensive side. I got some chili over rice for $3.50, it tasted lackluster and was a small portion. Make sure to get something with nacho cheese on it to enhance the flavor. To be fair, it does seem like they have plenty of other ,more pricey and tasty options on the menu but I wasn't willing to swing it. About half thier menu is vegetarian friendly, gotta love it. The gift shop is well stocked and reasonably priced, spent a good twenty minutes just choosing a souvenir. Overall, a fun little trip , I'm glad I went. If you have kids, it'll make for an excellent field trip and might get them thinking on the wonders of science and the natural world. That's all I'll say, don't want to spoil the Mystery of the Spot ;).

  • Very unique experience.. only gripe is before you start to enjoy, the tour will be over.. kids will enjoy a lot.. tour guides are very professional as they make it more interesting and intriguing.. there is a small hill few feet away that is good for hiking..

  • All the fun is in the way the guides explain the whole story and walk you through two gravity defying rooms else it's just two anti gravity rooms only ;) Parking here is $5 and entrance per person is $8. One can book online, over phone or at entrance. Its preferred to book ahead to get convenient time slot. Despite the crowd they get everyday the food cafe is not well maintained. Also, I'd not recommend booking over phone since I booked over phone and they charged my card after two months (seriously??) !!
