Santa Monica beach had many spots where beginners and 1st timers can try their hand at surfing. The Aqua Surf School is a great place where they give beginners surfing lessons. They also have surfing camps which last from 7 days to 14 days, but if you don’t have that much time in hand, go for their private lessons that last an hour to two.

Aqua Surf School Reviews & Ratings
Aqua Surf is our go to camp in LA! My son has enjoyed coming to Aqua Surf over the past few years. He loves going with friends or dropping in solo. It's a comfortable and relaxed setting for experienced and beginner students. The instructors understand the needs of each surfer depending on level of experience as well as their individual personality. I appreciate the flexibility of the program as often times we sign up last minute and squeeze in a week of camp or day or two of surfing in between other activities. Sign up can happen easily online or the staff is available by phone to help you out promptly and efficiently. Thank you to all the staff in the office and on the water for accommodating our crazy schedule and last minute requests. For busy families, who occasionally leave the house in a rush, they supply everything---including the sunscreen (for purchase). The Santa Monica location is also super easy to drop off and pick up!
This is probably one of the funnest camps I've been to. The people, all the way from the kids to the counselors are amazing, spontaneous and make you feel at home straight away! I love the way they organize the camp and make you feel perfectly safe while always giving us the opportunity to roam and be kids. The energy is spot on and so importantly high! I really enjoyed going and can't wait to go back!
My nephew came from Colombia for his summer vacation, he went to Aquasurf for one week and oh boy we was really happy there ! He never surfed before and I could see his improvement and confidence in the water after the camp ! I can say that the counselors do an amazing job and specially with kids with 0 surf experience they are super dedicated! They are professionals, but at the same time they are super friendly and cool with the kids ! Hopefully he join the camp next year ! I highly recommend this camp !
Sent my kid there a few days last summer, and again this spring. Top notch organization. I'm always impressed. The instructors are excellent! They seem to have limitless energy & patience. They have surf knowledge, and they're great with kids (and parents)! It's rare to encounter such a professionally-run tight ship, no matter what the business. These guys stand out. As far as the surfing goes, they make it super fun. They take the "work" out of it: they haul the boards to and from the water's edge. They'll even haul YOU out into the surf, turn you around, steady your board and get you on a wave immediately = so satisfying! Smiles all around :-)
My five-year-old went for the first time over spring break--just a day--and we're signing her up for at least a week this summer--hopefully two. She absolutely loved it, and as a parent I was super impressed by the professional vibe, as well as the individual care they gave the little ones. I was totally comfortable leaving her in their care for the whole day. And she had an absolute blast. Wish grown-ups could go!
