Hostal Dos Reis Catolicos Or Catholic Kings Hostal389 Votes Currently Closed
Also known as the Hospital dos Reis Catolicos is now a 5-star Parador hotel, located in Santiago de Compostela. It was built in 1499 with the aim of serving as a hostal for pilgrims who slept on the streets of the city. It was like a shelter for them. This hostal is situated at the end of the Pilgrimage trail, leading to the way to Saint James. It is said to be the oldest refuge in the world. The facade of the hostal has a Castilian coat of arms along with Adam, Eve and various other saints. Once you enter the hostal, there are four arcaded patios that have gargoyle rainpouts. These rainpouts are said to be the caricatures of 16th century townsfolk. It is now one of the most luxurious inns in Spain.

Hostal Dos Reis Catolicos Or Catholic Kings Hostal Reviews & Ratings
The oldest hotel in the world (year 1499). The rooms are of generous size with classic furniture. Great breakfast. It faces the main square of Santiago with the cathedral, you can breath history in your stay. You walk through cloisters to get to the rooms. Just beautiful.
I've been to seven hotels in Spain so far and this was by far the best! The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are modern and well equipped. The restaurant is amazing and the food and staff are great, there's a live piano player at dinner which is so nice, usually the restaurant is not that crowded and there's usuly hotel guests, the food is really, really, really good, the waiters are polite and funny
We had a package tour lunch; it was good. Lobby is luxurious. The bathroom count is a bit low for large groups
Not surprising that the architecture of a Parador is historically interesting, this one from the late 15th century. Location is great of course, right on the Praza do Obradoiro with a magnificent view of the imposing cathedral and the ecstatic (or exhausted) pilgrims arriving at their destination. The Room spotless, bed comfy. Service fine, but let’s say the wait staff wasn’t overly attentive. Breakfast was okay but a little disappointing for a house of its stature.
Is like staying in a palace. Beautiful hotel to end our Camino de Santiago!
