This is the oldest temple in the Hainan province. It is both historically and culturally significant. The building was originally built to commemorate Cangjie, the creator of Chinese characters. But when the Qing dynasty lost its power and the building was lying in neglect for years, the locals made it into a temple of Mazu, the Goddess of the sea. The temple is small and quite old, but well preserved. It is located on the beautiful Wuzhizhou Island. When you walk out of the temple you are met by the beach. Highlights include:

• The Mazu Statue
• The view of the sea
• The Peacocks in the garden

• If you want to buy the incense, bargain for a reasonable deal.

Take a ferry from the Sanya city port.

• Ferry timings- 7:40am to 6pm
