From its name, it's quite evident that the Mercado Municipal, is a market. But there's more to the story than just some buying and selling. A designated covered market place since the1930's, the architecture of the hall is what will first lure you into it. Once you've come to terms with the exquisite skylights and the stained glass windows will you then appreciate the sights at eye-level.
The Mercado Municipal is Sao Paulo's largest food and produce market. There is no better sight in the city that encapsulates the architecture, history and some local culture and life as well the Mercado. With over 300 stalls, take time and browse through some local delicacies. Grab a bite at any of the quaint old cafes before you call it a day.

Mercado Municipal, Sao Paulo Reviews - Write a Review
Easily one of the nicest markets I've been to in South America. It's not packed, it's incredibly well organised and there's tons to buy and see, really well worth coming. There's a ton of amazing fruit and vegetables and an amazing restaurant that serves the world famous mortadella sandwich... It's good!!
Basically like the others around Brazil and the ones around Latin America. A bunch of little stores to buy food. You will also find a nice place to eat at the second floor with great service. Nice place to visit and know. Four starts because it could be better conserved!
A must do experience if you want to see the real Brasil and taste the most amazing fruit available. Of course the mortadella sandwiches upstairs are famous.....but there's so much more to see and taste.
Good selection of fruits, but very overpriced. They charged me R$165 in a few fruits. Too damn expensive. Some restaurants are good
It appears an abandoned place. Good variety, but high prices. Years ago it was a nice place to visit. At least in 2017 this place needs to be renewal and well cared.
