Yellow Fortress - Review
Barely a fort anymore, this place is a remnant of one. Still it affords very nice views of the city; an excellent vantage point. It was built under the Ottomans but apparently didn’t gather much importance under it’s belt – because it’s not heavily advertised. It’s only time of significance during the year is the Ramadan, when the cannon at the fort is fired over the city at, letting people know that they can break their day’s fast. When you’re going up to the place, you’ll also come across a neatly preserved war cemetery – reminder of the Bosnian Civil War. An once you’re at the top, whip out that t camera and click away. This is also a cool place for a picnic if you feel like carrying your food all the way up here.
Yellow Fortress Information
- To get there from the war cemetery at the eastern end of town or following the river upstream. Where the road forks, take the right fork. Follow it past Hotel Sara and up to the fortress.

Yellow Fortress, Sarajevo Reviews
Great view from it. Easy to reach. You need to climb to the hill, but the view is great to Sarajevo. A good wooden bar is there, you can refresh yourself. Sit down on chairs. Because of the trees there is shadow around you, so if it is warm definitely take a rest here.
Great views and large area for picnics and parties. Very easy to get to with the city tram and a 10 minute walk. This was especially great during Ramadan with all the people around waiting to eat when the Cannon fires off here, letting the whole city valley know dinner is served.
I met two lovely girls in cafe and they bring me there. You can overlook the whole city and it is free. It’s better than get the cable car.
Quick (but steep) hike up some streets for a great view, only about 10/15 minutes from center. There is a ledge to sit on and a cafe up there (with WiFi) too. Would definitely recommend.
It offers the best view on Sarajevo! From there it's possible to see the difference between Eastern and Western culture architecture. It is easy to climb to the bastion from Baščaršija. On the way there are many cute cafes. My recommendation is to spend some time up there and to take some food and drinks and enjoy the sunset :) also, buy the stuff before starting to climb the bastion cause there is no shop up there.
