Burg Berwartstein - Review

Berwartstein Castle is an ancient fortification in Erlenbach bei Dahn, Germany. Located in the the southern part of the Palatinate Forest, this castle is one of the popular tourist attractions in this area. Though it was first mentioned in 1152, no one knows for sure when it was actually built. Its architecture is very brilliant with numerous underground passages, a deep well and a tower outside the castle. Though the tower has suffered a huge damage over the centuries and is not accessible, you can learn about it if you take a guided tour. You can also see a collection of decorative arts and furniture here. Visit this castle and step back in time.

  • surprise! We were expecting an "help yourself place", but they are actually well organized and you can join a guided tour with multilingual super young guides! All the staff is really nice and the bar is pet friendly. They also organize groups for kids. The food might seem a little overpriced, but it worth it if you consider that's a support for the mainteinence of the structure. The location is also good for hiking. Raccomended to spend a couple of hours (or a day) in relax.

  • amazing castle with English speaking guided tours about 30 minutes long. much to see here including the underground tunnel system. price is about 5€ for adults

  • Really interesting to hear the history of this castle and to see around inside. Has its own quite well hidden dungeons, took us three goes to find them. They do an English speaking tour sometimes I think, not when we were there but someone gave us a lot of information in good English before we went round on our own.

  • You can drive up pretty close to this one. Well preserved, and had a nice gift shop. They had a self guided tour for €5 which is worth it.

  • Very interesting guided tour of a small well restored castle.
