By their own claim, this is the largest police museum in western USA. The museum explores the founding, history and legacy of the Seattle Police Department. It also explores the department's cultural and technological interactions and evolutions. To this end, the museum utilises photographs, documents, weaponry, uniforms from the late 19th century onwards. The exhibit is surprisingly engaging.

Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum, Seattle Reviews - Write a Review
We were walking around looking at places of interest to go to and I saw this one online and wanted to go. When we got there it was closed and a sign on the door that said until further notice you have to schedule an appointment to tour the museum. We didn't get to go in which was disappointing.
"Until further notice visiting the Police Museum will be done by appointment only"
Lots of really cool historical police artifacts
As a collector of law enforcement memorabilia, I loved this place. It is small enough that the mildly interested can have an affordable look around and glean some interesting bit of history. It is also large enough that collectors and cops can spend hours inside. The badge collection is especially impressive. As many collectors know, real police badges are very difficult to come by. If you have time to see a few attraction in downtown Seattle, I highly recommend adding this one to your list.
The Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum offers something for everyone. There is the history of the Police Department from its inception to present day. The displays of old badges, uniforms, and guns is very interesting visually, and the history of the criminal element throughout the years is great reading. However, the BEST part of the museum is what it provides for the younger set. My grandson had a ball locking us up in the old jail cell, dressing up in the police gear -- shirts, hats, bullet-proof jackets, holsters -- and playing at an old dispatch center. There were police lights to activate and a number of other fun activities for the younger set. They museum also has a small, but excellent, array of police souveniers to choose from for adults, and a good selection of books aimed at the younger visitor. The folks at the museum were very friendly and even gave my grandson a badge sticker, which he proudly wore. Police officers, from time to time, stop by to chat with visitors, which makes it even more personal. The Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum is a gem!
