The city's oldest Park was opened in 1875 and is still one of the city's favorite places from which to view cherry blossoms. In springtime, when hanami season is in full swing, the trees are all eliminated and vendors set up food stalls at the park. For those of you visiting during the other seasons, there's still plenty to see. For example, there is the preserved steam locomotive, a collection of sculptures scattered around the park, and a famous plum tree brought back from Korea by Date Masamune 400 years ago. There is a swimming pool, a baseball field, and an observatory nearby.
