Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is one of the most fascinating geographical features in Jeju. It is an archetypal tuff cone which was formed about 5,000 years ago on a shallow seabed by hydrovolcanic eruptions. It is also popularly known as ‘sunrise peak’. The tuff cone stands tall at a height of 182 meters and has a well-preserved bowl-like crater, along with many other internal structures from the sea cliff. Being well-preserved, the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Upon visiting this place, you will be able to witness around 300 different species of marine algae.
