This marvelous piece of architecture is the main gate for the Gyeongbukgung palace. It is made fully of granite and dates back to 1395. Its name literally means ‘May the light of enlightenment blanket the world’. It was built during the Joseon dynasty but was later destroyed during the Japanese occupation of Korea. The result was that the gate had to be rebuilt entirely in concrete in 1968. Notice how the entrance resembles a rainbow.
