About Capilla Del Obispo, Madrid

The Chapel of the Bishop is where the undecomposed, 200 year-old body of San Isidro Labrador (the patron saint of Madrid) was discovered in the 16th century. After the discovery, King Alfonso XI ordered for a place to keep the remains of the saint.

The remains were moved to Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo in the 18th century but the church is still worshipped for its association to San Isidro Labrador.

  • La Capilla de Santa María y de San Juan de Letrán, más conocida como la Capilla del Obispo, es uno de esos lugares casi desconocidos de Madrid en cuyo interior se guardan algunas de las maravillas de la ciudad. El impresionante retablo y los sepulcros, obra de Francisco Giralte, las propias puertas a la Capilla, merecen mucho ser conocidas. Históricamente esta Capilla albergó los restos de San Isidro durante un tiempo.

  • También conocida como Capilla del Obispo de Plasencia. Destaca su fachada norte que da continuidad al Palacio de los Vargas.

  • Una capilla preciosa que estuvo en obras mil años y ahora es un lujo en el Madrid de los austrias La Latina. Muy recomendable e imprescindible
