The Chapel of the Bishop is where the undecomposed, 200 year-old body of San Isidro Labrador (the patron saint of Madrid) was discovered in the 16th century. After the discovery, King Alfonso XI ordered for a place to keep the remains of the saint.

The remains were moved to Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo in the 18th century but the church is still worshipped for its association to San Isidro Labrador.

Highlights include:

  • Stunning architecture of the place and the grand design of the main alter.

  • The ticket can be bought at the box office Museum Almudena Cathedral located in Plaza de la Almudena s / n, (opposite the Royal Palace).

  • Admission is Euros 2 per person.

  • Monday to Sunday from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm; 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Guided tours:

  • Tuesday: 10:00 am to 12:30 pm
  • Thursday: from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

  • Gioiellino gotico. Bel altare di legno con tante statue scolpite

  • Piccola cappella risalente al XVI secolo, fa parte del complesso della chiesa di San Andrés, anche se l'accesso è separato, e si trova nella parte posteriore della chiesa, la base è in stile gotico, mentre il resto dell'edificio in stile rinascimentale. Ci venivano custodite le spoglie di San Isidro fino al 1544, anno in cui vennero spostate nella chiesa di San Andrés, grazie alle numerose cause intentate dal parrocco. La cappella è molto piccola, all'interno non c'è molto da vedere. N.B. l'accesso in luglio e settembre 2018 è il seguente: dal lunedi al vernerdi dalle 18.30 alle 20.00, mentre il sabato dalle 12.00 alle 13.30

  • Entrañable. Te ayuda a orar.

  • Fue toda una sorpresa visitar esta capilla. No imaginábamos la joya que había allí escondida. El retablo es de una delicadeza incomparable, y el sepulcro de mármol a la derecha una obra maestra. Dio la coincidencia de que en ese momento las hermanas se disponían para la oración. Los cantos entonados por voces delicadas se sumaron a toda aquella hermosura. Nos quedamos.

  • Me la recomendaron y, si bien estaba cerrada, volví de nuevo. Merece la pena y mucho.
