Iglesia Del Salvador - Review

Completed in 1712 this church was built on the ruins of a 9th Century mosque. But other temples once stood here too - Paleochristian, Roman, and Visigoth. In the 19th century the church ran out of funds and began to deteriorate. It wasn't until 1987 that the church was restored to its former glory. The architecture is an elegant Baroque Mannerist style. The lavishly decorated Church interior is famous for its ostentatious collection of altarpieces, of which there are 14. Behind the high altar is a small painting gallery. Visitors should not miss the church minaret, from where they can enjoy sweeping views of the city. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Seville Itinerary 3 Days.

Iglesia Del Salvador, Seville Reviews

  • Breath taking baroque church entry free if you bought ticket for cathedral. Peaceful space. Pity no access to courtyard/cloister.

  • The church itself has nice stonework and a stunning nave and dome. I felt the altarpiece was hideously kitchy and over the top baroque. Outside is understates baroque. The real secret here is that you can buy a combined ticket with cathedral and giralda which saves you half an hour of queuing outside to get in and allows you to skip the queues. As with most churches in this part of spain, it's on the site of a previous mosque.

  • Nice church affiliated to the main cathedral. You can buy tickets for both here and skip the line at the cathedral

  • A real treasure! Very few tourists. Very personal. It really is a WOW experience. BEAUTIFUL! One of the best example of the rococo in the whole of Europe. Really is incredible. Words fail me. Must see!!!!! I thought that coming here first before the cathedral would be a preparation for the larger place. I was wrong. Yes, there is much about the cathedral which is very good but, quite honestly, even though San Salvador is a lot smaller it really is amazing! Also if you want to visit both-- pay 9 euros and you can jump the very long queue at the cathedral. ( 4 euros for only San Salvador; pay 9 euros at San Salvador and the ticket covers the cathedral and la Giralda. )

  • Fantastic interior. Well worth a visit. We only went to avoid the cathedral queues by buying a joint ticket here and were astounded by this church, which we felt far surpassed the cathedral in beauty and atmosphere.
