Completed in 1712 this church was built on the ruins of a 9th Century mosque. But other temples once stood here too - Paleochristian, Roman, and Visigoth. In the 19th century the church ran out of funds and began to deteriorate. It wasn't until 1987 that the church was restored to its former glory. The architecture is an elegant Baroque Mannerist style. The lavishly decorated Church interior is famous for its ostentatious collection of altarpieces, of which there are 14. Behind the high altar is a small painting gallery. Visitors should not miss the church minaret, from where they can enjoy sweeping views of the city. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Seville Itinerary 3 Days.

Iglesia Del Salvador Reviews & Ratings

  • A "hidden" gem in Seville. One of the most beautiful churches of the city and it mustn't be overlooked. You will be surprised once you walk in. Rich, gorgeous, awe-inspiring. One of my most cherished memories of the many churches and sights visited.

  • What a stunning hidden gem! We went here to get a combo ticket for this and the main cathedral so we didn't have to queue for ages at the main cathedral. But the altars in this cathedral are more spectacular than the main cathedral. Really jawdropping!

  • Amazing church. Used our seville cathedral tickets so we could enter for free. Beautiful - less tourists, more peaceful and more beautiful than the cathedral

  • Really impressive. Adorned with so many details and sculptures you can spend half an hour just to look at everything. Not possible to visit of course during 'misas'.

  • This church is part of a dual ticket purchase to the Seville Cathedral, and in many ways it is far more inviting. I would choose to worship here, and not at the other (which is largely a tribute to the wealth of Queen Isabel with the conquest of the New World). This is a lovely building, with a good audio visual guide. It makes for a perfect stop as you walk from the main shopping visit to Old Seville.
