Flanked as it is on all sides by Seville’s heavyweight historical buildings (General Archive of the Indies, Alcazar Palace, Seville Cathedral), the square is almost famous just for being famous. The plaza is so named because of a historical event. The 1755 Lisbon Earthquake shook even Seville, and though there were people in Mass inside the cathedral at that time they were able to make it outside and finish the Mass without a single injury. In commemoration of this the El Triunfo monument was erected here, where an annual thanksgiving Mass is held.. There is another monument in the square, the Monument to the Immaculate Conception, a 1918 creation carved with the figures of Bartolome Esteban Murillo, Miguel Cid, Martinez Montanes and Juan de Pineda.

Plaza Del Triunfo Reviews & Ratings

  • This place is nice for a quick stop but, is often very crowded and definitely not as nice as the other squares in Seville.

  • this place is just magical. it's where the 3 powers of the nation back in time were met. you have the kings power, religion power and the merchant power. we all know who was more powerful back then right ? such a nice place. come back at night to enjoy the calmness and absorb the smell of power from all three power house. very recommended to come to this plaza.

  • Beautiful area ... so much to see. From monuments, Cathedral and Alcazar. Long line up at Alcazar ... buy your tickets online it is a lot quicker to get in.

  • Amazing place. Så beautifull.

  • Really beautiful town. The historical part of the town is a must, of course. Only the parking is a bit of a stress.
