As is common knowledge, the primary religion that is practiced by the people of China is Buddhism. This temple is unique as it is one of the modern Buddhist temples. The temple exhibits influences from both the Chan and Pure Land philosophies and traditions that are associated with Mahayana Buddhism.
Established in 1882, the name of the temple is a reference to the two Jade Buddha statues that are housed in the temple. These statues, one representing a sitting Buddha and the other a reclining one, were imported from Burma. More recently, the temple made an acquisition in the form of a large marble reclining Buddha that was donated by Singapore.
The layout of the temple comprises the Grand Hall, the Chamber of the Four Heavenly Kings, Gods of the Twenty Heavens, Guanyin, Shen Cai and his 53 Teachers and golden statues of 18 Arhats. Also, visitors can go to the public restaurant located at the eastern section of the temple.
