This pagoda is considered to be a part of the Longhua Temple and is one of the most beautiful and imposing structures in the area.

One of the 16 pagodas that are located in Shanghai, the Longhua Pagoda is the most famous and well maintained among them all. The floor layout follows an octagonal plan and each of the seven storeys decrease in size from bottom to the top.

Keeping true to traditions of the original style of architecture, the pagoda is hollow with a wooden staircase spiraling up to the top. The outside decorations include banisters and balconies. Being built in 977 AD, the pagoda is not open to the public today mainly because of the brittle nature of the construction and components.
