Ever feel like kicking back with a nice, little book or just strolling through one of those storybook-esque English gardens? Or maybe you just require a relaxing afternoon nap while the children frolic around minding their own business. In any case, Endcliffe Park might just be the right place to go to. One of the largest parks in Sheffield, Endcliffe Park also double as a piece of woodland. You can expect yourself to be surrounded by sweet chirping sounds and the rustling of leaves atop the beautiful trees; so much so that it can make you forget all about the city structure the park is in.

The park was opened in 1887 to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Its 15 hectares, and was acquired in stages in 1885, 1887 and 1927. Two monuments dedicated to Queen Victoria adorn parts of the landscape. Near the entrance is a statue of Queen Victoria and midway up the path towards Whiteley Woods is an obelisk, also in honor of the Queen. Both originally stood at the top of Fargate in Sheffield city center. Another piece of history that accompanies this place is the crash of the USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress "Mi Amigo".

On 22nd February 1944 the aircraft was on the way back to base, heavily damaged from a bombing mission over Aalborg, Denmark. Around 5pm it crashed in the park and the whole crew of 10, was compromised. A memorial stone marks the crash site. An annual memorial service organized by the Royal Air Forces Association is held at the site on the Sunday closest to 22 February. When viewed from Rustlings Road/Ecclesall Road the crash site can still be seen, marked by a noticeable drop in the height of the trees on the hillside behind the cafe.
