The Rother Valley Country Park is a country park in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, close to its border with Sheffield and Derbyshire. Full of land and water sports and all sorts of fun, the place is a great hangout for the athlete. Don’t care about moving around too much? Well, the beautiful environment comprised of numerous birds and other wildlife is perfect to forget about things shaking your brain and just relax. Take a book, take a picnic, take your sporting equipment or don’t take anything at all. Rother Valley Country Park has something for everyone.

The park officially opened on 27 May 1983, at a cost of £4 million, following two years of restoration work on former open-cast coal workings. The 750-acre land consists of four lakes and a pond, surrounded by areas of maturing woodland planted in the 1980s, grazing pastures, scrubland, hedgerows and more formal grassland. The park aims to provide an area for recreational pursuits, encourage wildlife to return to the area, and provide a flood protection plan for the areas downstream.
