National Trust - Shaw's Corner Reviews & Ratings
A lovely place. It is small house compared to other national trust places. Still worth a visit. Beware if you use a wheelchair it is a gravel path so not so easy to push some one. Also to get in and out or rooms is a tight space but achievable.
George Bernard Shaw's home in Ayot St Lawrence preserved as it was when he was alive in the middle of the 20th century. Owned by the National Trust and open to all. Lovely gardens and a small cafe van to sell tea coffee etc and cakes but you have to sit outside to consume them. His famous 'writing hut' is out in the gardens and it rotates on a central rod so it can be turned to face the the sun. Good for a few hours tour and in summer you can sit in the gardens too. There is a pub just down the road if you want hot food etc.
Great place to spend a couple of hrs getting an insight into GB Shaw's life, home and beautiful surroundings. The gardens are simple, serene and it's easy to imagine him sat writing in his hit. Local village is small but lovely with an amazing church and great pub.
Would definitely recommend a guided tour because the guides are so well-informed and helpful. The house has the warm feel of a well-loved home and the gardens have been well planned and planted with soothing, understated flower colours and combinations. A lovely place to spend time.
A fascinating building telling the story of a great man and his amazing wife. A strangely modest home for an Oscar winner and a Nobel prize winner and his wealthy wife. Shaw's Corner still feels like a home whose owner has popped out for an hour or so.
