Elephant Fall - Review
Known as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew by the local Khasi people, Elephant Falls are perhaps the most popular tourist destination in Shillong. If you are on a sight-seeing spree of the city, make sure this place is right at the top of your itinerary. The first thing that you will witness after reaching the spot is the foaming white water, gurgling down the stony steps. This crystal clear water is in contrast with the greenery on the sides of the waterfall, adding to the beauty of the place. Renamed as Elephant Falls by the British, who found it difficult to pronounce the local name, the waterfall is believed to have gotten its name from a huge elephant-shaped rock near it. Though the rock was destroyed in an earthquake, the name remained. Make the best use of this waterfall and shed your inhibitions to take a dip in cold, clear water.

Elephant Fall, Shillong Reviews
The clear waters flowing through dark jutting rocks characterize the beauty of Elephant falls in Shillong. Voluminous and elegant, this attraction is aesthetic, picturesque and graceful. Surrounded by green vegetation, you have to take steep steps to reach the rocky area from where these falls flow into a deep wooded valley. Located at a distance of 12 Km from Shillong, It is a perfect picnic spot for families and a prime attraction for nature photographers. During winters, the water gushes down with full force making the falls look irresistible and mighty. You can carry your picnic bag along with a pair of extra clothes, just in case you wish to take a dip in the water here. Those who love adventure sports can do waterfall rappelling here by paying a nominal fee.
It was majestic. Just beautiful. When we went it was raining a bit but that made the time even more enjoyable. We went by hiring a local car. The place is heavenly. It has three falls together. Two you have to see from distance and the big one you can get close and take pictures. The outside of the park also has shops and other arrangements you can enjoy. It also have local restaurants around it.
This waterfall has three sections. On every section there is a wooden bridge to watch the waterfall. It's a good place to see if you are wandering in Shillong. It's situated around 10-15 kms from main Shillong city. You will find some local shops there to buy some wooden items and clothes. The ticket of this waterfall is around 15 RS and increase if you are parking bikes or cars there. Ample parking space for vehicles.
Its easy and popular place for all to enjoy 3 level waterfall. one has to take few steps here. But you can not enter in waterfall, just can take pics from side. It wont give vibes of open natural pools like other waterfalls in Sohra.
The name itself justify the ownership and power the nature has. I loved the enthusiasm people have after visiting, a bundle of joy and peace. Will go again. Only the authorities at entry counter should go to school once and learn some behaviour.
