About Elephant Fall, Shillong

Known as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew by the local Khasi people, Elephant Falls are perhaps the most popular tourist destination in Shillong. If you are on a sight-seeing spree of the city, make sure this place is right at the top of your itinerary. The first thing that you will witness after reaching the spot is the foaming white water, gurgling down the stony steps. This crystal clear water is in contrast with the greenery on the sides of the waterfall, adding to the beauty of the place. Renamed as Elephant Falls by the British, who found it difficult to pronounce the local name, the waterfall is believed to have gotten its name from a huge elephant-shaped rock near it. Though the rock was destroyed in an earthquake, the name remained. Make the best use of this waterfall and shed your inhibitions to take a dip in cold, clear water.

Elephant Fall, Shillong Reviews

  • Good place to spend quality time with family and friends. Children will definitely enjoy this place. Set of three waterfalls of small drop. The walking route is next to the falls and crosses the falls at two places. Carry comfortable footwear like sneakers as about 15 minutes of walking is involved one way. Climbing back will take longer. Gives you good exercise also.

  • A must watch place...,if you belong to metropolitan city then this is cool place for you guys!so go there, fell the place with your 💓 and soul, get wet, enjoy the mystic Beauty there.,...,.... .......,...,... Shoot with camera ,be creative. Its amazingly loving atmosphere.. Waiting for you to capture its majestically immortal Beauty. Be painter, be photographer, be one against child again, hold the hands of mother Earth and forget all worry &hurry..be there treasure the beautiful memories and cherish them life long. ☺

  • Very scenic place and lovely weather... It is a must see in Shillong.. The water falls has 3 levels of decent so we get to see different variations in the same water falls... Of course for those who can't climb stairs be cautious...

  • This is very small place. The water flow is not much. The only difference is that the water falls at three levels. Not so great place. You will find many water falls better than this

  • A unique 3 tier waterfall. This is situated in the Shillong Cherrapunjee main road. Well maintained. One has to go down the stairs to watch each level of the waterfall. Good number of tourists. There is a small entry fee. Parking is available. There are petty shops around. Can get tea coffee etc. There is a big garden too. One has to climb up after reaching the last layer at the base. Aged people may find it difficult as it is very steep climb up. Good place for photography. I think during monsoon the fall will be wonderful sight.
