The majestic ruins of Abbey of San Galgano were found in the valley of the river Merse. It was built by the Cistercian monks and was dedicated to St. Galganus. This 13th century abbey was built in the gothic style and was once a wealthy, thriving church that was later left to ruins until recent restorations. The abbey declined in the 16th century due to a long period of corruption. As of now, an empty shell remains of what was once a beautiful church.

Abbazia Di San Galgano Reviews & Ratings
Highly recommended. It is an very impressiv old building. And the way the sun shines through the antique windows simply amazed me. You do have to pay 4€ to get in but it is totally fine for the things you get to see. I would definitely go there again.
Beautiful huge structure, breathtaking!! Great for photoshoots and/or to get away from the busier cities. It is generally very quiet and feels very peaceful.
I love buildings with atmosphere. As there is no roof, the play of sun and shadow under the arcs was magical. A wedding just took place there, they will have beautiful photos.
Beautiful architecture and incredible history all rolled into one. It's a bit of an hill to see the sword in the stone but is interesting though.
Beautiful setting for an historic site. Combined with the hermitage of St Galvani, it makes a good trip from Stigliano and anywhere this side of Siena.
