Established in 1977, Simon's Town Museum is a community museum located in the center of Simon's Town. A perfect place to learn about the life and culture of Simon’s Town, the Simon’s Town Museum can be best described as a province-aided museum that receives a continuous support from the Western Cape Government. The museum preserves all the important aspects of Simon’s Town’s glorious past and tells about its position as a small yet important maritime port in the world. The museum is located in a building called “The Residency” that was constructed in 1777 as the winter residence for the Governor of Dutch East India Company.
