Esplanade Theatres On The Bay, Singapore Reviews - Write a Review
Esplanade is a wonderful place to hang-out with friends and families. Much more than a world class performance venue, it also offers great food, artistic pursuits, ambience with breathtaking waterfront view. Plus there are always (free) events and activities the whole year round for the whole family, including a public library in its premises too - in short, a family friendly place to while your time away from the busy and crowded malls just a stone's throw away...
I watched a performance of the Nutcracker in the Esplanade Theater. The dancers were amazing, but the overall experience wasn't convincing. First of all, at the entrance to the upper floors they didn't have the devices for scanning tickets, so they just tore the printed tickets apart. Of course this took longer so we had to queue for some time to get in. However, this queue wasn't as long as the one at the bar during the intermission, which made it almost pointless to order a drink because you'd have to down it to be done in time. The theatre hall was cooled down to a very uncomfortable temperature, it's advisable to bring a jacket or blazer. Very disappointingly, there was no live music in the ballet, i. e. no orchestra! Talking about the break again, the gong which should announce the continuation of the play sounds more like a fire alarm and it didn't give enough time to go back to the seats again. All of that wouldn't have been worth complaining, if the drinks at the bar were worth the money. However, when the bar keeper handed me my Cuba Libre, they had forgotten the coke! Almost as surprisingly as that, the theatre allowed young children which disturbed the performance by crying during the show. I hope the Esplanade Theatre will improve on that, so that the great performance doesn't suffer these flaws in the future. A side note to all the comments mentioning the architecture: I agree it looks amazing from the outside, but the theatre hall itself is just a modern version of any European opera house. I cannot see any new ideas or approaches in the design.
The best (not one off) performance venue in Singapore with extremely good sound / audio.enjoyed most of the performance I attended here. Has various kinds of venues available including music Hall, theater, experimental theater and venue for electric music (annex studios). Only issue is the show is always delayed so don't go to early!
Library is good... specialty is on music and film... got good collection... shops are quite expensive... view on top is nice... sometimes, there are also free shows in the lobby
Excellent venue with state of the art acoustics. Plenty of dining options. And great location by the Singapore river. A perfect place for a family entertainment.
