  • Great Bear was our wedding venue and we absolutely loved the entire experience. Jill the event coordinator was very helpful the entire time. They are reasonably priced and are willing to work with almost anything you want. We had such a blast having our wedding at this location. It's so beautiful plus you have absolutely everything you need in one place. We had our whole day out there! The photos, rehearsal, ceremony and reception. They cater the food for you and have so many beautiful spots to take pictures. We can't say how much we appreciate everything they did for us. We know for a FACT that we wouldn't have gotten the same treatment elsewhere and we would have had to pay more elsewhere too. I HIGHLY recommend this location for any event that you are planning. We do love enjoying some time out here in the winter too.

  • We hike quite often at Great Bear. There are many trails that vary in difficulty from a leisurely stroll on a wide gravel path to a more strenuous dirt path with significant gradient changes. We can easily spend a few hours here exploring trails. For the area and its size limitations, it is excellent hiking. Definitely take bug spray as the mosquitoes are quite bad in some areas.

  • Great hiking. Greener than green. The trails were a bit muddy. We opted to stay on the more traveled roads. It was enjoyable. Heads up! Mosquitoes are treacherous. Bug spray did very little. They were less aggressive when I started explaining my political views.

  • I haven't skied here since I was a teenager. For the area, it's a great way to spend the day on Christmas break. I recently discovered all the trails in the area. I've lived in Sioux Falls most of my life and I've been here more this summer than I have any winter! Bring your bug spray, the gnats and mosquitoes are ferocious deep in the woods.

  • I bring my poodle here to hike frequently! It's fifteen minutes from my house. It's probably the nicest place to hike for a couple of hours that's not an hour's drive away. There are a nice assortment of trails to walk on!
