Skudai (also spelled Sekudai) is a town in Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. Skudai is part of the new growth corridor of southwest Johor, which includes the Senai International Airport, Tanjung Pelepas Port and Iskandar Puteri. Its population ranges between 160,000 and 210,000. It is the headquarters of the Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council and it is home to the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia campus. Skudai is located 8 km, 4 km and 16 km from Kulai, Senai and Johor Bahru city (Bandaraya) respectively. Mas Selamat bin Kastari of the Jemaah Islamiah terrorist organisation was a most wanted fugitive who escaped from Singapore police custody. He was recaptured in the vicinity of Skudai in April 2009. Chinese make up the majority of the population at 65%, followed by the Malays at 22%, and Indians at 12%.
